Dungeon Hunter Alliance Vita Review: As Bad as They Say?

Dungeon Hunter Alliance for the Playstation Vita is a game that divides opinions. Many players have criticized the game for its repetitive gameplay and lack of innovation, however, I personally found the game to be enjoyable. The hack-and-slash gameplay is satisfying, with smooth and responsive controls, which work well on the Vita’s touch screen. The game offers a good variety of weapons and spells to choose from, each with its own unique abilities and attributes, allowing players to experiment with different playstyles. The game also offers a good level of difficulty, with enemies becoming increasingly challenging as players progress through the game.

The graphics in Dungeon Hunter Alliance are decent, with detailed environments, colorful and expressive character models, and well-designed enemies. The game’s art style is consistent, and it manages to create an immersive fantasy world. The game also features a decent sound design, with fitting sound effects and an atmospheric soundtrack.

Dungeon Hunter Alliance is a port of a mobile game that was originally released for iOS and Android devices. The game was developed by Gameloft, a company known for creating mobile games that are similar to console and PC titles. The game’s transition to the Playstation Vita platform allowed players to experience the game in a more traditional console-like setting, with improved graphics, sound and controls. Despite being a port of a mobile game, Dungeon Hunter Alliance offers a full-fledged gaming experience, with a deep and engaging combat system, intricate skill trees, a large variety of items, and a strong multiplayer component. The game also features a single-player campaign that offers a satisfying and challenging experience. However, it’s worth noting that certain elements such as the UI design, progression system, and certain game mechanics can be reminiscent of mobile games, indicating its origin.

When compared to other similar games like Diablo, Torchlight and Bastion, Dungeon Hunter Alliance doesn’t quite measure up in terms of depth and complexity. However, it still manages to provide an enjoyable experience for fans of hack-and-slash action RPGs. It’s worth mentioning that the multiplayer mode is no longer available, due to the servers been shut down.

Compared to Silent Hill: Book of Memories though (another dungeon crawler that has had mixed reviews on the Vita), the similarities between the two games are more apparent than initially thought. Both games are available on the Playstation Vita, and both feature a level-based structure, where players progress through different areas, and both games also have a multiplayer aspect, or used to, before the servers for both were shut down.

While the story and overall atmosphere of the two games are quite different, both games share similar core gameplay mechanics as both are dungeon crawler games. Both games feature character customization, with players able to create their own protagonist, and both games also feature a loot collection system, where players can acquire new weapons and armor to improve their character’s abilities. The combat systems may differ, but the core objective of exploring and clearing dungeons is a shared feature.

In terms of graphics and sound, both games have their own unique aesthetic, with Dungeon Hunter Alliance having a more colorful and detailed look, while Silent Hill: Book of Memories has a more eerie and atmospheric look and feel. The stories of the two games are also vastly different. Silent Hill: Book of Memories is set within the Silent Hill universe, and it includes elements of psychological horror and supernatural events, while Dungeon Hunter Alliance has a more traditional fantasy setting.

Overall, while Dungeon Hunter Alliance and Silent Hill: Book of Memories have some similarities, they cater to different players. Dungeon Hunter Alliance is more suited for fans of hack-and-slash action RPGs, while Silent Hill: Book of Memories is more suited for fans of survival horror and story-driven games.

In conclusion, Dungeon Hunter Alliance is a solid action RPG experience for the Playstation Vita. While it is a port of a mobile game, it offers a full-fledged gaming experience with a deep combat system, intricate skill trees, a variety of items, and a strong multiplayer component. The game’s graphics and sound are impressive, and the single-player campaign offers a satisfying and challenging experience. However, it’s worth noting that certain elements such as the UI design, progression system, and certain game mechanics can be reminiscent of mobile games, indicating its origin. Overall, fans of hack-and-slash action RPGs should give Dungeon Hunter Alliance a try, especially if they are looking for a portable gaming experience.
