For well over a month now, the PS4 and PS Vita has stamped their authority on the hardware sales charts in Japan and things are showing no signs of a slowdown if the latest sales figures are anything to go by. It’s been another impressive week for Sony’s two current systems with both once again taking the top two spots but what has been interesting this week is the software charts which has also been dominated by sales for Sony platforms with nine out of the top ten games being PlayStation titles.
Anyway, the hardware sales for the week ending 29th March 2015 are:-
- PS4 – 46,830
- PS Vita – 28,222
- New Nintendo 3DS LL – 16,225
- PS3 – 6,450
- New Nintendo 3DS – 5,421
- Wii U – 5,298
- Nintendo 3DS LL – 2,205
- Nintendo 3DS – 1,877
- PS Vita TV – 674
- Xbox One – 220
In a surprise, the PS Vita TV also saw an increase in sales and while this was only a small increase over previous weeks it does seem to indicate that the PS Vita as a whole is gaining ground as a platform.
What is clear looking at the software sales this week is that the Vita is performing incredibly well at retail in Japan with no fewer than four PS Vita titles in the top ten, peaking with Sword Art Online: Lost Song entering the charts in second place selling over 120,000 copies in its first week – almost three times as many copies as the PS3 version which only managed to enter the charts in seventh place. Whatever the Vita’s status may be in the West, with four new AAA titles released in the same week in Japan and with the games and console still selling well, it is reassuring that the Vita still has a healthy future for games ahead of it.
