PS Vita Japanese Hardware Sales – w/e 22nd June 2014

News

The latest figures are in from Japan for the weekly console sales and it’s been an interesting week, certainly in the Sony and Nintendo camps again. As we predicted last week, sales of the Wii U had been experiencing a recent surge following the release of Mario Kart 8 and now the interest in this is showing signs of a slowdown, so are sales of the Wii U hardware which – according to the latest sales figures from Famitsu for the week ending 22nd June 2014 – have dropped the console down into third place.

The PS3 and PS4 are down in fourth and fifth place although reduced sales are to be expected for the PS3 considering it’s age, it’s also understandable for the PS4 at present with it’s relatively quiet impact it is having in the East. With few titles released that appeal to the Japanese market and certainly no JRPGs to speak of and the majority of current titles geared up for a Western audience, it was only expected that it would have a stronger start in the USA and Europe. In fact, there are no PS4 games in the top 10 chart which reinforces this.

Anyway, the latest hardware chart is:

  1. Nintendo 3DS LL – 21,584
  2. PS Vita – 12,603
  3. Wii U – 8,373
  4. PS3 – 6,681
  5. PS4 – 6,527
  6. Nintendo 3DS – 4,274
  7. PSP – 1,160
  8. PS VitaTV – 1,139
  9. Xbox360 – 134
