I admit it, I love the old Warner Bros cartoons. They may be predictable and lack depth in terms of plot and storylines, but there’s no denying that they’re fun to watch. In a way, the same can be said for the games that they have inspired – there’s never really a great deal of substance to them but as long as there’s plenty of slapstick humour and they’ve kept to the fun and character of the cartoons then they’ve usually been fun to play. Keeping that in mind, while I knew that this collection of mini sports games wasn’t going to be a classic, I was at least expecting something that would put a smile on my face…
In essence this is really a collection of short games that don’t really last more than a few minutes each. They’re all presented in typical Looney Tunes style with great cartoon visuals and as well as the basic gameplay style for each game (golf, an endless runner-styled race, shooting gallery etc) they are enhanced with ACME style power-ups at your disposal. The problem is that the games are generally simplistic and are the sort of fare that you’d expect from mobile gaming or budget console games and not from a full price retail release.
Sound is also frustrating as it doesn’t match the visuals. Not once were the current Looney Tunes voices heard in the game and that’s a wasted opportunity. Cartoon humour is all well and good, but without character voices, games like this lose a lot of their appeal to their core fans. As a whole package it’s not a bad game but it’s disappointing for the price and there are better individual examples of each of the mini games at a cheaper overall price.
