Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Coming to the PlayStation 4

Final Fantasy

On Tuesday, June 10, 2014, Square-Enix announced that the heavily desired role playing game would be coming to the PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita via the US PlayStation Blog. The specific article can be read here. Within minutes of posting this blog entry, Sony made this correction:

Update: An earlier headline for this post stated that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is coming to PS Vita, which was incorrect. Type-0 is coming to PS4 in North America and Europe.”

The comments for both the US PlayStation Blog and the European PlayStation Blog for the story went from being ecstatic to showing absolute outrage. Comments started to include the hashtag #NOVITANOBUY and someone even started a petition to try to get Square-Enix to change their minds.

Final Fantasy Type-0 came out for the PSP in Japan in October, 2011. Many PSP fans and PS Vita fans assumed the game would be coming West to the PS Vita, at least digitally, based on rumors and the tireless work of Shahid Kamal Ahmad and his #jrpgvita campaign.

It is very exciting that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is coming to the West but it would be nice if it was coming to the PS Vita as well. This game was originally designed to be a handheld game on the PSP so it would be a perfect fit for the PS Vita. Based on Shahid’s comment on Twitter, there is still a chance of that happening.

On an interesting sidenote, an unofficial fan-made English translation of the game was recently released. This translation was not endorsed or approved by Square-Enix.
