Starting today and for the next couple of months we’ll be taking a look at what we feel are the 100 essential PlayStation Mobile titles that we feel are an essential purchase for every PlayStation Vita owner. With PSM coming to a close and games no longer being able to be purchased from the PSN Store from 15th July 2015 we wanted to bring you a definitive list of the best games available for the format so you had a chance to discover these hidden gems and grab them to play on your PS Vita before many of them disappear forever.
We’ll be posting these in no particular order but one thing that we will say is that no matter what games you buy from this list, you won’t be disappointed…
First up is Life Of Pixel from SuperIcon. In this retro platformer you take on the role of a small square – a pixel – who has managed to escape from a video games museum and has managed to enter the world of 8-bit gaming and thus begins his adventure. Here follows a massive 64 levels of platform action broken into 8 areas, each area dedicated to a classic 8-bit computer or console. Each level has lovingly recreated the graphics and sounds of a myriad of old systems providing a wonderful nostalgia trip for gamers of all ages.
It’s retro all the way though with Life Of Pixel. As was typical for the era, our angular hero has to collect a number of gems on each level before an exit opens up which then unlocks the next level. As you complete levels, different computers and consoles become available until all 8 are available to play with classics including the Atari 2600, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Nintendo Gameboy being amongst the delights to discover. Pixel perfect jumping is needed but while some of the levels are frustratingly difficult, it’s a game you’ll find impossible to put down.
