Like found footage films, it’s the suspension of belief, the “it may just be possible” that takes this game from “good” to “I had a ton of fun with it”.
We, as an industry, are constantly trying to validate videogames as works of art. However, sometimes we tend to leave emotion out of the equation. And SMRPG is a work of love. It has a huge heart, it plays well, it looks great, sounds awesome.
Aside from minor frame-rate issues, “Bastion” on Vita is one of the best games I’ve ever played, on this or any handheld, and beyond. It’s beautiful, fun and haunting. If you haven’t played it, grab a copy for less than a cup of espresso will cost you in London and enjoy game-making at its best.
