Just under two years ago, the final PS Vita digital games were released. On 20th July 2021, six titles were released on the PlayStation Store before Sony closed down submissions for good for new games. One of these was the retro-styled action title Russian Subway Dogs from indie studio Spooky Squid Games. Since that time, while we have seen a plethora of new homebrew titles, and a handful of remaining physical games released from the likes of Eastasiasoft and Limited Run Games, there have been no new developments on the digital store front. Until now…
This week has seen the release of two new console ports of Russian Subway Dogs – for the XBox One and PlayStation 4. These join the existing Steam, PC, Mac and PS Vita versions that have been available for some time. But what is significant with this new release is that the PS4 version supports Cross Buy! It’s the first new Cross Buy title to support the Vita for a couple of years and the Vita support is specifically mentioned in the PlayStation Store description as well.
Hopefully this won’t be the last Vita port to make it over to the PS4 or PS5 that will offer Cross Buy but with a new physical game, a new Cross Buy title, and the first physical homebrew release, 2023 is certainly shaping up to be a year full of surprises…
