It’s time for another “game-a-day” review here at Vita Player! This time, it’s a bit more difficult. I’m reviewing an Atelier game, which means this could have easily been an experience on which I drop 100 hours of gameplay. So, trying to figure out the ropes in a day isn’t optimal. But I know enough about the series to let you know whether it’d be good to pick it up or not, so let me give you my veredict!
Atelier Firis is a very deep, complex game. It'll be hard to do it justice in a live-tweeting review, but I'll do my best! – @MarcosCodas

Beautiful anime-style intro, as per usual with JRPGs. But English vocals! That's a surprise. Sounds nice, though. – @MarcosCodas

The story is already interesting. No amnesia trope? WIN! – @MarcosCodas

Changed my preferences to hear the JP Voice Acting. Really rather good, as usual. – @MarcosCodas

The engine runs great during gameplay, but in-game rendered cutscenes look choppy. Odd. This engine has been used widely. – @MarcosCodas

Oh, wow, it's really slowing down now. Framedrops just walking around town. It looks amazing but runs poorly. – @MarcosCodas

And then it gets better. Hard to predict, too. Doesn't seem to be affected by the amount of stuff on screen. Odd. – @MarcosCodas

Very cool to see strong female characters in a JRPG, though. Very nice chance of pace. – @MarcosCodas

Got it! Complex structures rendered in the distance is what causes the slowdowns. Sad. But avoidable to some extent. – @MarcosCodas

Hey! It's Sophie! Hooray! – @MarcosCodas

Aaaand that was my first synthesis with the now familiar cauldron system. – @MarcosCodas

That's all the time I have for Atelier Firis right now, sadly. I wish I could have gone exploring more. – @MarcosCodas

The Atelier engine is very pretty on Vita. Firis, despite the hiccups with frame drops, looks really good. – @MarcosCodas

I think the highlight is in the story and characters. Strong female cast makes the game a standout in the genre. – @MarcosCodas

Atelier games can be as long as you want them to be, so if you're in the look for great bang for your buck, look no further! – @MarcosCodas
