Following an extensive on-line campaign, Sony have announced that the forthcoming Japan Studio action RPG Freedom Wars is to get a physical release in Europe.
An announcement from European Playstation Blog Manager Fred Dutton confirmed that: “Today, I’m happy to confirm that Freedom Wars will now be made available as a full physical edition as well as a digital release, from day one.”
This is clearly a very welcome move from SCEE. Let’s hope that there’s enough interest in the physical edition to make the investment worthwhile. If SCEE sees enough interest in a physical release it may encourage further ports to also follow this route.
Freedom Wars is a co-operative action game set in the year 102013. In a ruined world no longer capable of supporting life, mankind has retreated to ungerground cities known as ‘Panopticons’. Criminals in this world are forced to battle ‘Abductors’, giant monsters, in order to reduce their sentences which start at 1,000,000 years.
It’s hoped that this release will be the ‘Monster Hunter’ type shot in the arm that the Vita has been looking for. There have been some concerns that the game is too hard, although difficulty was adjusted in a recent patch.
