100 Must-Buy PlayStation Mobile Games: 47 – Chain Reaction

100 Best PlayStation Mobile Games 047 - Chain Reaction

Before I start off talking about this game, I had better get the nasty part out of the way… Chain Reaction is a Free To Play game. However, don’t let that put you off because if you do, you’ll miss out on a great addictive puzzler and while it’s not the most original title on PSM, it’s one of the most rewarding and fun to play…

In it’s most basic form, Chain Reaction is all about blowing things up! The game starts with a black screen with small gems floating around on it. Touch one and it explodes and any others that are caught in the blast radius also explode and so on… the objective is to detonate enough to reach the goal set for each level to progress to the next. The snag? You only have a single explosion that you can set off per level so you’ve got to choose very carefully!

There’s a bit more to it than that – at the end of each level you’re rewarded with “chain points” based on your performance and you can spend these in the in-game store to increase the duration and size of your explosions etc and this is where the paid element comes in. Each upgrade has several levels which increase in value as you upgrade and while they can be earned through play, you can speed this up by spending “real world” money. Some chain points bundles aren’t particularly cheap but it’s worth buying a smaller pack to at least support the developers.

F2P aside, it’s fantastically addictive game, with lavish explosions that fill the screen with colour and bring the game to life. Even if you’re not sure about the idea, it’s not going to cost you anything to try it so it’s one that you really can’t miss out out it before it’s too late.
