PS Vita PlayStation Store set to close in July 2027

In an announcement published by Sony Interactive Entertainment earlier today, it has been confirmed that the PlayStation Store will finally close its doors for the PS Vita worldwide in July 2027 as part of a phased programme of shutting their digital storefronts down for the PS3 and PS Vita over the next 12 months.

For the rest of 2026 stores will be closing for the PS3 in two waves. August 2026 will see the store close down for Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua. This will be followed by further closures for the PS3 store in extra Latin America and Middle Eastern countries in the latter part of 2026.

The remaining countries will be able to access the PS3 store until it shuts down in July 2027, at the same time the PS Vita store closes down worldwide. With regards to the Vita’s store, this comes 8 years after the console was discontinued so it has lasted a lot longer than many of us expected.

At the moment, Sony have stated that after the closure, previously purchased games will still be available to download beyond this date although it isn’t clear how long this will continue for. So with that being the case, there may still be some Vita games available after this date if Cross Buy is still activated although we won’t be able to know if this is the case until the time comes.

For collectors, this may see a shift in prices of physical Vita games as the closure date looms closer but this move is worrying for other PlayStation owners as Sony also announced today that they will be shifting towards a 100% digital-only distribution of games from 2028. This will no doubt impact on the PlayStation 6 and the rumoured follow-up to the PS Vita as well.
