Conclusion
I have to be honest and the results here surprised me. Despite being a PS Vita fan since day one, there’s no denying the fact that it’s now an ageing console. Games have been drying up for several years, it’s manufacturer abandoned it within a few years of launch and it disappeared from mainstream retail long before games stopped being made. Let’s be frank, the world gave up on the Vita a long time ago.
At the same time, most of Nintendo’s recent machines have taken a defiant stance against the games industry. While others have pushed towards the fastest, most powerful technology, Nintendo focused on hardware that would deliver the best gaming experiences. The Wii was laughed at for it’s low specifications yet went on to be an astronomical success.
We won’t talk about the WiiU, but the Switch seemed to again fly in the face of what the industry demanded. It didn’t offer stunning performance. But it offered ways for families and friends to play together straight out of the box. Ways to play wherever you were, with a single console. The promise the Vita made about console gaming on the go was actually here as it was the same console. And this time the manufacturer was 100% behind the platform. So with that in mind, shouldn’t the Switch be a completely dominant system?
Flawed Systems
As you’ve read, both consoles have their clear strengths and weaknesses. Sony and Nintendo have both produced fantastic consoles and in an ideal world anyone who loves handheld gaming should get both. I don’t regret buying my Switch earlier this year and already have a huge games library for it, but I’d never trade my Vita for it. Both have a strong place in my gaming set up and I’m using both equally. It’s just that each have games I want, and want to play on them.
