Pixel Noir PS Vita Update

We’ve been talking recently about the Kickstarter funded RPG Pixel Noir and it’s status. Originally scheduled for release in 2016, the PC version entered Steam Early Access but no details have been made available about release dates for the other ports. I have been asking the developers, SWDTech, for more information regarding the PS Vita version specifically. I had expressed concerns, mainly for two reasons…

First, porting was being handled by BadLand Games who aren’t that well endeared to the Vita community right now. Secondly, being written in Unity has become an issue for some games. Unity is no longer being updated or supported for the Vita so only older versions of the development tool are still compatible with the Vita. However, SWDTech have been in touch with BadLand and have posted an update to all backers on the campaign page on 23rd October…

Finally, we’ve read through the concerns around the Vita port. We can confirm that after a discussion with our Publisher, the Vita version is still coming. Our due diligence includes a reconfirmation around publisher porting support, version compatibility within Unity, and confirmation that digital submissions are still allowed by Sony. It’s a great platform for RPG’s and we would love for nothing more than to be part of its legacy! To be transparent, there is still a chance that Sony will end support for the Vita before launch. If that happens, we will be in touch with our Vita backers. We’ll be looking at projecting an official release date once we finish up Chapter 7, prior to moving onto sidequest implementation & polish.

Just to confirm, these are all the platforms we have plans to port to:

    • Windows
    • Mac
    • Linux
    • PS4
    • PS Vita
    • XBox One
    • Nintendo Switch

We’re still looking forward to this one when it arrives hopefully next year.
