Poker fans from all across the world are flocking to Rio. They are going to Las Vegas to try and come out on top in the WSOP. This is going to be the first time that they have been able to do so in person for some time. There are going to be some major differences that you may need to be aware of, specifically when you look at the previous years. You need to stick around if you want to find out more about them.
WSOP is Moving to the Fall
The WSOP usually takes place during the summer. This time of year can be an extremely hot and uncomfortable time to visit Vegas; the coming World Series of Poker tournament is taking place from September 30th to November 23rd. For those who hate temperatures in the triple digits, you will soon find that the weather isn’t going to be that great, so this is very good for everyone.
Qualifiers in the Main Event
It would seem that another first for this year is being able to qualify for the WSOP $10,000 main event. There are also Three Club Poker News players who have been able to secure their seats. It would seem that this is the most prestigious event on the calendar and this is exciting, to say the least. Every player who can download the app through the PokerNews app will be able to get $10,000 in free chips to play with. Many sites are offering the opportunity to get into the action as well, with the main one being GGPoker.com.
Good News for Rio
The Rio hotel has been the home for the poker event since the year 2005, but is this event going to be the last one that is being held there? Some say that the WSOP is going to be moving to Bally’s next year and this would be a major change, to say the least. Part of the announcement has read that the VNEA long-term contract with Bally’s hotel and casino has been cancelled and some say that this could indicate that the WSOP is moving from Rio to Bally’s and Paris properties from the year 2022 and beyond.
Coverage
Next up, coverage. WSOP has chosen CBS Sports as their coverage provider and they have also increased the amount of coverage too. You have 18 different events and they are going to be televised with 15 hours of coverage. This is going to be the main event and it is going to be produced by Poker Central.
New Events
This year, you have a lot of new features. You also have stalwarts such as the Monster Stack and the Millionaire Maker. As if that wasn’t enough, you also have the Double Stack and the Closer. These are all going to be held on Fridays and Saturdays and they are going to be on throughout the fall. You also have tournaments that are sure to entice new players, which is interesting, to say the least. The Reunion was held on the 1st of October and had a $5,000,000 prize pool. To meet this guarantee, the opening weekend had to attract 10,000 people who would be participating. Players can easily choose from three flights, being on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They can also play them all.
You also had the Heads Up No-Limit championship. This started on the 5th of October and this increased from the usual $10,000 prize to $25,000. It was also capped at 64 players in total. The Flip and Go, which is a very popular online tournament, is also being galvanised as a live event. Every single player will be in the preflop during the very first hand and they will be dealt a total of three cards. Two are then selected. One player will fast forward into the money and the tournament will play out.
