What A Week For The PS Vita

Blog

I mentioned in an earlier blog that 2013 is likely to be a fantastic year for the PS Vita… but certainly I never expected us to get such an incredible week like this one…

It feels as if everyone in the industry has suddenly woken up and realised that the Vita is still here and actually does have a large user base with a few million gamers out there who are crying out for good quality games and now it seems as if publishers and developers are fighting amongst themselves to see who can get titles out to market first or surpass each other when it comes to big announcements – and it shows no signs of slowing down!

Here in the EU we have our traditional weekly update to the PlayStation Network Store and this week it’s set to be a fantastic week of releases, many of which seem to be coming at us from nowhere. Farsight are releasing the long-awaited Twilight Zone table for The Pinball Arcade (following the update to the game a few days ago allowing that and two more tables to be added) with the promise of the superb Star Trek: The Next Generation Table by the end of the month. Not to be outdone by this, Zen Studios confirmed that no less than TEN Star Wars tables are on the way for Zen Pinball 2 with the first few of these also being released this month!

That’s not all we’ve been treated to though… Sony have continued the PS Mobile giveaway with the fantastic Aqua Kitty – Milk Mine Defender, we’ve got the release of Alien Breed for the Vita, the quirky Wake-Up Club (and how many of us are secretly planning on getting this?!), a price drop for the PlayStation Plus subscription, a great sale to celebrate the first birthday of the Vita, and for those looking for more bite-sized gaming, PlayStation Home integration with PlayStation Home Arcade!

We’ve been spoilt further with great new trailers for Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway and then Sony drop the bombshell… 20th February 2013. Pretty much everyone believes that this will see the unveiling of the PlayStation 4, but hopefully we will see the PS Vita integrated with it in some capacity and if that is the case, we could be in for a fantastic time ahead as Vita sales surge in anticipation of the two systems working hand-in-hand.

If this is what the Vita has been like this week, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the month brings!
