PS Vita Japanese Sales Charts – 19th June 2016

It’s been a while since we took a look at our Vita owning friends over in Japan to see how our favourite console is faring over there so it’s time to see what’s happening in stores as we peruse the latest retail charts for the week ending 19th June 2016 based on data supplied by Famitsu…

As we all know, the PS Vita is still doing well in Japan when it comes to games with a steady release of titles coming out for the console and the sales charts reflect this, certainly showing a difference to what is happening in the West with two Vita games being placed in the top ten this week – Hakuoki Shinkai: Hana no Sho jumping straight in at number 3 with an impressive 12,063 copies sold, being joined by Dragon Quest Heroes II: Futago no Ou to Yogen no Owari right behind it in fourth place.

Not surprisingly, Nintendo are dominating the Top 10, but the highest placed Wii U title only manged to sell just over 5,000 units. This could be a sign of a current games drought or Nintendo supporters focusing on 3DS titles right now with the high levels of brand loyalty often seen with Nintendo systems.

Over on the hardware front, there’s nothing unexpected here but again the Vita is still performing well against its competitors. The PSTV is now all but gone from the retail sector and it would appear that it’s just the odd units that now remain in surplus stocks that are being sold so we believe that it’s only a matter of time before prices start to rise on the micro console.
